Zoe The Traveler Review: What the Safety Warning Means

Short answer: The Zoe The Traveler has a carry-on fold, a big canopy and a deep recline for $279, but read the safety news first. In February 2026 Consumer Reports rated it 'Do Not Buy' after it tipped backward on a slope with the seat reclined. Zoe disputes this. If you buy it, keep the seat upright on hills.

Safety note. In February 2026, Consumer Reports rated the Zoe Traveler a "Don't Buy" after it tipped backward on a 12-degree incline in its tests, with a 45 lb load and the seat fully reclined. Zoe disputes the findings and says its certified labs could not replicate them. CR advises keeping the seat upright on any slope. We don't include it in our picks, rankings or quiz.

On paper, the Zoe The Traveler is one of the best-equipped travel strollers near $300. It weighs 13 lb, folds with one hand, fits an overhead bin, reclines to 140 degrees and has a large UPF 50+ canopy. BabyGearLab named it its best budget travel stroller in 2024. The concern is Consumer Reports' February 2026 'Do Not Buy' rating for backward tipping, which Zoe disputes. Until that is settled, many parents may prefer a rival without the warning.

Who is the Zoe The Traveler for?

The Zoe The Traveler is for families who fly or road-trip often and want a light stroller with more comfort than most. Zoe sells it for $279, lists it at 13 lb, and says it fits airline overhead bins. Zoe recommends it from 3 months to 45 lb, which is earlier than many travel strollers that start at 6 months. BabyGearLab named it its best budget travel stroller in June 2024. Before you buy, though, know that Consumer Reports rated it 'Do Not Buy' in February 2026 after it tipped backward in CR's stability test. Zoe disputes the result. If you live somewhere hilly, or you like to recline the seat while walking up slopes, take that seriously. It also does not take an infant car seat, so a newborn will need a different setup.

How does the The Traveler ride and steer?

Zoe lists 6 1/4 in rear wheels and 5 3/8 in front wheels on the Zoe The Traveler. BabyGearLab scored it 6.9 out of 10 for maneuverability, saying it was slightly easier to push and turn than average, with a very tight turning circle. Its reviewers also noted frame flex and small foam-filled plastic wheels, and said it handled grass, gravel and curbs only decently. Owners on Zoe's site mostly praise how easily it steers, though one says one-hand steering was harder than on her Zoe double. The main safety point is about slopes. Consumer Reports found it tipped backward on an incline of less than 12 degrees with a 45 lb load and the seat reclined, so keep the seat upright on hills, as CR advises.

How big is the The Traveler when folded?

Zoe lists the Zoe The Traveler at 13 lb, and BabyGearLab measured 13.2 lb. Zoe gives closed dimensions of 18.5 x 21.5 x 9.5 in, and BabyGearLab measured 23 x 18.6 x 12 in. It folds with one hand and stands on its own, though BabyGearLab notes it leans on the canopy to do so. Zoe says it fits airline overhead compartments, and a snack tray folds in with the stroller, like the belly bar. Owners on Zoe's site like that they can fold it while holding a toddler, though one says the handle fold sometimes did not close. It also takes up little room in a car trunk.

Is the The Traveler comfortable and safe?

Comfort is a strength of the Zoe The Traveler. Zoe lists a 140-degree recline, a reclinable footrest and a four-panel expandable canopy with UPF 50+ protection, which BabyGearLab called massive. BabyGearLab said the recline is deep enough for naps and the seat fabric is thicker than most. The seat is 11 in wide by Zoe's spec, which is snug for bigger toddlers. Zoe recommends it from 3 months, with a 45 lb limit. Zoe lists GREENGUARD Gold and Baby Safety Alliance verification. Consumer Reports advises keeping the seatback upright on any incline, so save the full recline for flat ground.

How much storage does the The Traveler have?

Zoe gives the Zoe The Traveler basket a 10 lb limit. BabyGearLab found it on the small side, with room for a medium bag, and noted the canopy pocket does not close. Consumer Reports also warns against hanging heavy bags or backpacks on the handlebar, because that can cause backward tipping. A snack tray is sold separately. Plan to pack light: a slim diaper bag, a water bottle and a light jacket fit better than a full day of shopping. On a trip, a backpack worn by a parent is a safer place for heavier items.

What did Consumer Reports find, and what does Zoe say?

In February 2026 Consumer Reports rated the Zoe The Traveler 'Do Not Buy'. In CR's stability test, with a 45 lb weight, the brakes on and the seat fully reclined, it tipped backward at less than 12 degrees, about a 20 percent grade. CR repeated the result on a second sample and said no other stroller in its current ratings has failed this test. CR also found two reports to the CPSC, one of a tip and one of a fold with a toddler inside, and said it knew of no injuries. Zoe disputes the finding, saying its certified labs could not replicate it and that it has sold more than 18,000 in the US without a tipping injury claim. CR does not dispute that it meets federal standards. No recall was found. If you own one, keep the seat upright on slopes and the brakes on when parked.
